Highcliffe Castle near Christchurch in Dorset is a surprise in many ways. Built as recently as 1831-6, it was damage by fires in 1967 and 1968 and declined to become a ruin for many years before a restoration which started in 1994 and was completed in 2008. Its modern uses do not greatly appeal to me but are probably a necessary concession to its continued existence. Today I had to work around a craft fair attended by quite a number of people. 200_2_P1020026
