A short internet journey and a long walk ended at what I consider to be one of the most wonderful railway relics in the UK. Only 24 hours earlier I had not heard of the Lady Wimborne Bridge but when I was doing my research on the Southampton and Dorchester Railway I saw a picture of it. The bridge was opened in 1876 to carry the railway over the driveway to the then Canford House (now Canford School). The last train ran over it as recently as 1976. Pictures hardly do justice to this magnificent structure and my heart was full of joy to see it for myself. I was excited to be able to climb via a set of rough steps to track level. This is the view north towards nearby Wimborne. Geotagging would more accurately say Oakley or Wimborne or Merley. 200_P1050681
