Starkitecture - 3 June 2022

In a city with more than its fair share of grim residential and commercial architecture, this Bristol Chinese takeaway with some sort of accommodation above it struck me as perfect for a little nod to fellow photographer on another site. Asian Restaurant Trio, Bletchley - 2 August 2020

03 Aug 2020 142
As work goes on to replace the Bletchley Viaduct (rail), Duncombe Street is closed to through traffic. The street contains an important trio of restaurants at numbers 4-8 with the Indian restaurants Rose of India and Golden Curry at numbers 6 and 4 respectively and Dragon Boat Chinese Takeaway at number 8. Lotus House/Dolphin Fisheries Takeaways, 11A Hambledon Road, Waterlooville. Taken for groups on another site, this picture sits happily as a record shot in my albums here too. TZ30_P1050794CE

New Star, Waddon - 1 April 2018

New Star Chinese Takeaway and Shaw's Electrical, Purley Way, Waddon, Croydon. In this view, shot primarily for a Flickr group I belong to, I have intentionally included more context than usual as I found the view particularly pleasing. I love the cute little building behind the takeaway, presumably the original property. A chimney of probably some age contrasts with a compact satellite dish from more recent years. Shaw's Electrical has quite a vibrant frontage with a bold display of well known names. 200_3_P1050222CE

Tung Sing, Portreath - 14 February 2017

A visit to Portreath was deeply fascinating as much for what used to be there as what is there now. The Portreath Incline was the arrival route for the Portreath branch of the Hayle Railway which opened in 1837. Remains of the incline can be seen in this photograph behind the Tung Sing Chinese takeaway in Tregea Terrace. The takeaway was formerly a full restaurant as recently as 5 years ago and a photograph from the early 20th century shows a building on this site which appears to be one from which this has been altered. The archive image also shows the railway which closed in the 1930s and was lifted completely in 1945. The incline is not presently accessible in the town but it is intended to restore access as a footpath. Photograph by John Oram Photoshop (blur) by Gregory Halse 200_2_P1150113_PS

Fin & Bone - 16 August 2016

16 Aug 2016 160
Rather fine weather presented an opportunity to mark (albeit a little belatedly) the arrival in Anstice Court, Lee on Solent of Fin & Bone which replaced New Chip On The Block. This picture also features the long-established Chinese Takeaway, T. & J. (solent) [sic] which has hardly changed in many years except for opening arrangements and menus. 200_2_P1120813C
