There continues to be at Eastleigh a remarkable variety of motive power and other stock although what is visible on any given day varies quite a lot and the new fence featured in this picture has made photography even more difficult. Much of what goes on at Eastleigh is of historical note and involves changes of liveries or even use and so is particularly worthy of a record shot. There are currently a number of former Northern Rail Class 142 Pacers there and one such is 142007. Nearer to the camera is DMSL 55598. 200_4_P1000987E

My records reveal that on 7 May 1986 I made a day trip to Manchester (from London) and, on a whirlwind tour, took in Manchester Piccadilly, Rose Hill Marple, Stockport and Manchester Victoria. At that time the Pacers were barely a year old and the transition from first generation dmus was under way. Looking back (from April 2020), I was fortunate to capture 142042 at Manchester Victoria alongside a Birmingham RC&W Class 104 unit with DMB 53460 leading. 860635_070586E

My records reveal that on 7 May 1986 I made a day trip to Manchester (from London) and, on a whirlwind tour, took in Manchester Piccadilly, Rose Hill Marple, Stockport and Manchester Victoria. Sprinters and Pacers were still relatively new at the time of this visit to Manchester Victoria. Class 150/1 Sprinter 150116 is displaying a 'Special' blind and is seen next to Class 142 Pacer 142033. 860636_070586E

At that time Pacers were barely a year old and I believe I found it quite pleasing that I was to travel on one from Piccadilly to Rose Hill (here). The short trip from Cardiff Central/Caerdydd Canolog to Ninian Park/Parc Ninian failed to get me any decent views of Canton depot but the interval between trains did allow me to get a handful of quite nice shots. Arriva Trains Wales/Trenau Arriva Cymru Class 142 dmu 142069 arriving at Ninian Park/Parc Ninian with the 1140 to Radyr. 200_2_P1100877E
