If you have not been on a submarine, it is worth a visit to appreciate just how cramped the conditions are or, at least, were on older vessels such as HMS Alliance. In spite of the centrepiece of this picture, one might describe those conditions as less than ideal. Alliance reopened today after a substantial refurbishment which included the dressing of the interior to represent operational conditions.
