Kensington Oval (3) - 10 March 2014

On arrival in Barbados, it was quite exciting to see that we were close to the Kensington Oval if slightly surprising to see its rather drab surroundings around the port of Bridgetown. This view across the containers is unattractive but intentional to provide a context for those who kindly view my pictures. For the record, this shot was actually taken in the late afternoon sun (better lighting) after the pictures featured earlier in my photostream. 200_P1010580

It was quite exciting to visit the Kensington Oval in Barbados and some of the architecture, although no longer fresh, is quite interesting. 200_P1010558

Gary Sobers (2) - 10 March 2014

One of the exciting things about going to Barbados, in fact the only exciting thing on what turned out to be a bad day, was being able to visit the Kensington Oval. The ground is visible from the ship in surprisingly unprepossessing surroundings. Outside is the inevitable statue of the island's greatest cricketer, Gary Sobers (Sir Garfield Sobers). The background to this picture is the Worrell Weekes & Walcott Stand, itself a tribute to three great cricketers. 200_P1010556
