The Celebrity Constellation was the penultimate of six ships to leave Port Everglades on this Saturday when it sailed for Key West. In this shot, she slips past Oasis of the Seas which will leave last for Nassau.

This is the scene at Port Everglades, Florida shortly before the departure of Oasis of the Seas for Nassau. The massive ship, which can carry 5-6000 passengers, is based there (with sister Oasis Class vessel Allure of the Seas). Its size is evident from the way it dwarfs the port infrastructure and nearby cargo ship SCM Fedra.

The massive Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas manoeuvres away from the quay at Port Everglades under way to Nassau. The Oasis Class vessel can carry 5-6000 passengers and was the sixth and final ship to leave Fort Lauderdale on this January Saturday.

The late afternoon sun picks out some of the 5000+ passengers on board Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas as it moves away from the quayside at Port Everglades for a voyage to Nassau, Bahamas. This weekend at the Fort Lauderdale port saw six ships on both Saturday and Sunday.

Soft afternoon light falls on the massive Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas as it leaves Port Everglades for Nassau, the last of six ships to sail on this winter Saturday. The sky looks a little more serious than it was on a pleasant January afternoon and some of the many recreational craft which accompany such departures are in evidence.

This is one of several shots in my recent series which juxtaposes one or more cruise ships at Port Everglades with aircraft from the steady stream towards runway 28R at FLL. Here, a Delta B757 is seen with Oasis of the Seas which would be the last of six ships to depart when it sailed for Nassau.

Captured during the departure of Carnival Freedom (centre) for St. Thomas, this panoramic view of Port Everglades includes Celebrity Eclipse(left) which sailed for Oranjestad after Freedom and (right) RCCL Oasis of the Seas which would be the last of the day's six ships to depart, for Nassau.

Cruise ships feature widely in my photostream. My rather challenging ambition is to photograph every ship in each port it visits. I am unlikely to achieve that but it is helped by my own travels. Many of the pictures will be purely documentary but I hope too to bring a little variety of composition to the subject(s). While we were watching the six ships which departed Port Everglades on this Saturday afternoon, there was a steady stream of aircraft approaching runway 27R at FLL. In this busy view, a Virgin America A320 is seen with Carnival Freedom, Oasis of the Seas and Celebrity Constellation. The Carnival ship will depart for St. Thomas, the Royal Caribbean giant to Nassau and the Constellation to Key West.

Winter weekends are busy at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Saturday 25 January 2014 saw six cruise ships in port and their departures were accompanied by warm evening sun and a host of small craft as well as Sheriff's and Coast Guard vessels. In this busy view, Crown Princess, which was the second ship to depart, leaves for Princess Cay, Bahamas. It would be followed later by Celebrity Eclipse (left) en route to Orangestad and RCCL Oasis of the Seas (right) to Nassau.
