More than four years after my last visit to the Great Central Railway, it was worth braving persistent rain to provide an updated document of the state of preservation at Loughborough Central.
A parting shot at the end of a wet visit can be compared with a similar picture from 15 July 2014. In today's photograph are (from camera), Class 33 D6535 (still), Class 47 1705 'Sparrowhawk', Class 31 D5830, Class 45 D123 'Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry', Class 20 D8098, Class 37 37714 'Cardiff Canton' and Class 25 D5185. This, surely, is a preservation line up to be proud of.

Reflections on Past Eras
More than four years after my last visit to the Great Central Railway, it was worth braving persistent rain to provide an updated document of the state of preservation at Loughborough Central.
In this view British Railways Standard Class 5MT 4-6-0 73156 is seen during its move by Class 08 0-6-0 shunter 13101 (previous picture) reflecting the shunter and Class 47 1705 'Sparrowhawk' as it stands alongside Golden Ochre Class 31 D5830.

In this view British Railways Standard Class 5MT 4-6-0 73156 (also pictured earlier in this series) is being moved by Class 08 0-6-0 shunter 13101.

Steam and diesel benefit equally from the excellent work there. Although the weather was at it worst during this part of the visit, British Railways Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78018 and Class 9F 2-10-0 92214 'Leicester City' both looked good.

More than four years after my last visit to the Great Central Railway, it was worth braving persistent rain to provide an updated document of the state of preservation at Loughborough Central. Steam and diesel benefit equally from the excellent work there. The poor conditions did not seem to harm this portrait of LMS Fowler Class 3F (Jinty) 47406. More than 400 Jintys were built and 9 are preserved, this example having lasted from 1926-1966 before withdrawal and eventual preservation.

Class 37 37714 'Cardiff Canton' provides a fond memory of the 1980s in Railfreight Grey and is seen with equally pristine Class 25 D5185.

Class 37 37714 'Cardiff Canton' has been beautifully repainted into Railfreight Grey (Metals Sector) providing a welcome reminder of the 1980s.
