Keystone Crescent (3) - 28 July 2019

31 Jul 2019 53
Following my visit to Keystone Crescent on 26 July 2019 [qv], I returned the following Sunday to do some more practical research on the ground. I had learned that an original Caledonian Crescent sign can still be seen on the side of 48 Caledonian Road. This might well be the case but that building was obscured by scaffolding and attendant sheeting. On the opposite corner (no. 46), there is evidence of the removal of an older street sign. That was a disappointment and strikes me as an act (possibly unintentional) of cultural vandalism. TZ70_P1000384

Elms Road (no longer) - 28 December 2018

This very old (cast iron?) street sign is attached, high up, to the east face of the cottage at 178 Folkestone Road Dover, shown in the previous picture (with note). The present day road is named Elms Vale Road. 200_3_P1090176E

Where Am I Now? (CA5) - 15 July 2018

My slow-growing series 'Where Am I Now?' continues in Kingston, Ontario. Yes, this really exists. The Tragically Hip Way is a renamed part of Barrack Street. No. 1 The Tragically Hip Way, at the north east corner of this intersection, is the address of the Leon's Centre (formerly Rogers K-Rock Centre). 200_3_P1060720E

One of London's newest postcodes, albeit now nearly three years old, is N1C introduced for the extensive developments in the Kings Cross area. 200_3_P1050379

My pictures of street signs are generally reference shots in lieu of written notes to help me to record accurately the location of a particular set of photographs. They serve, however, to record also the enormous variety of such signs. These are in Kingston, Ontario. 200_3_P1030705R

This is another picture which started out as a reference shot during one of my intense shoots for a group but I like it so much, especially the grain on the pole, that it is now in my occasional series 'Where Am I Now?' 200_3_P1030644E

This latest shot in my occasional series is, in fact, a little more than the usual reference shot. I was following Pratt Whitney Road (sic) in Palm Beach County, Florida in the hope of seeing something interesting outside the Pratt & Whitney factory which, I had already learned, is in the area. The route I took, via Corporate Road N, took me away from the factory but brought me to Assembly Loop in the Palm Beach Park of Commerce and the most striking building, depicted in the next three pictures. 200_2_P1080693

For both amusement and consistency, this shot comes from my pancake-fuelled morning walk in Palm Springs to help me to fix the location of some of my other photographs. 200_2_P1070479

What started as reference shots became a bit of fun and then souvenirs of sorts. This, in Napier, was taken while I was walking to visit the cricket ground. 200_2_P1030608
