4-VEP Memories A short trip from Vauxhall to Clapham Junction was intended to revive old memories and did so in an unexpected way with the sight of the beautiful 4-VEP (Class 423) 3417. If you overlook the modern vehicles in the background, this could almost be a much older photograph. Originally 7717, this unit was numbered 3017 and, subsequently, 3417 in successive modifications. During my evening visit Class 458 Juniper 8013 manoeuvred a very short distance from its initial position thus making it possible to walk along the platform and photograph the trailing unit, 8006. The South West Trains livery, of which I am not a particular fan, arguably makes the most of these unattractive units. TZ30_P1010267

As the evening light fall across Clapham Junction, the front end of the beautiful 4-VEP 3417 contrasts with that of the more recent Class 458 Juniper 8019. Most of my photographs today were taken across the sun and through the windows of the station footbridge but this had the advantage of being in the open air with the remarkable lens of my TZ30.
