SRN4 'The Princess Anne' - 22 August 2020

22 Aug 2020 1 73
The 2018 scrapping on site of sister (or aunt) craft 'The Princess Margaret' left 'The Princess Anne', the centrepiece of the Hovercraft Museum collection, as the sole surviving SRN4. The decision on scrapping was intended to release resource and funding for the restoration of 'The Princess Anne'. This view shows the parts which have been repainted but by no means all of the machine has received attention - perhaps, in part, because of the pandemic - and there is a lot of work to do. 200_4_P1000112CE

In March 2018 the sad but, arguably, inevitable scrapping of the SRN4 hovercraft 'The Princess Margaret' commenced. Some parts had been removed from this long time resident of the Hovercraft Museum at Lee on Solent to be used for 'The Princess Anne', now the sole survivor of the six SRN4s built. For the transport enthusiast and supporter of preservation, any such event is hard to watch and it seemed truly brutal as the excavator tore bits off a once imposing machine. TZ30_P1050001R
