In 2009 a sub-committee of Eastchurch Parish Council with many additional members sought, laudably, to mark the centenary of the birth, in 1909, of UK aviation. The Isle of Sheppey was prominent in the early days and Eastchurch airfield, for example, was significant until 1950. This monument, erected in the centenary year, stands near the western road entrance to Eastchurch. P1180940 - 15 October 2013
