Pioneer Road (2M) - 15 October 2013

The highlight of a visit to the mostly grim Isle of Sheppey, Kent was my discovery of this joyous monument to the Short brothers unveiled only in May 2013. The brothers were amongst the first manufacturers of aircraft and part of the birth of UK aviation in 1909. The statue stands in an exposed location at Muswell Manor near Leysdown. On occasion, as I explained with my variations on 'The White Horse', I like to create an original work based on the work of another artist. At the relatively remote location of this wonderful statue, my eye was drawn to the line of the road receding into the distance and accentuated by the line of poles. The only issue then was how to crop and whether to use colour or b&w. Three versions allow you to decide. P1180948CM
