One of the issues that had led to the substantial deterioration in the condition of Alliance was that it rested near, and often in, water as shown in this September 2010 photograph from a similar viewpoint. The refurbished boat has been placed above a gravel bed. Considerable damage had also been caused by pigeons and a massive quantity of their corrosive 'contributions' has been removed. 200_P1020026

The interior has received plenty of attention and has been dressed to show what it would have been like in service. A freeflow entrance system will now operate during busy periods with the museum's excellent guides taking visitors through at quieter times. These are the forward torpedo tubes. 200_P1020027
