Ten years ago and as shown in some of the imagery available online, Bishop's Waltham North Pond was substantially overgrown. A project, culminating in April 2018, cleared the pond and provided a viewing area from which this photograph was taken. The amenity adds great beauty to the very pleasant Hampshire town. 200_3_P1090749

Only recently did I learn of the former existence of the Bishop's Waltham Branch Line which ran from nearby Botley. For this enlightenment, I am indebted to Mark Williams for his post to the Facebook group 'Disused Railways'. The northern part of the former line, for 1 km south from the Corhampton Road roundabout in Bishop's Waltham, is managed by Hampshire County Council as a Local Nature Reserve. My photographs were taken at the Bishop's Waltham site. 200_3_P1090745E
