There But Not There (12) - 2 November 2018

04 Nov 2018 89
There But Not There is a nationwide initiative by the charity Remember in 2018, the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. In addition to the the Standing Tommies depicted earlier in my photostream, figures were made specifically to commemorate individuals named on local war memorials and to be displayed on benches or chairs. These are two figures of the five displayed in St Faiths Church, Lee on Solent and commemorate (l) Sergeant Percy Luff and (r) Gunner Hedley Newman. 200_3_P1080519R_M

This example, outside 124 High Street, Lee on Solent, commemorates Captain/Acting Lieutenant Colonel A E E Lowry who won the Military Cross and DSO before being killed at the age of 25 only 18 days before the end of the war. The literature placed on the bench additionally references further figures situated at the nearby St Faiths Church. 200_3_P1080516E
