G-CIVZ at Newquay - 4 December 2020

04 Dec 2020 1 202
Although the recent news that all three retro liveries will be preserved is good, the demise of the British Airways B747-400, hastened by the pandemic, was ultimately premature and inglorious. The dispersal of the fleet and the beginning of scrapping seemed to make all the more important a record in photographs of the very last days of most of the fleet. It was all the more sad then that this was as close I could get to G-CIVZ (with G-CIVF behind) on this wintry visit to Newquay. With dismantling under way, VZ is framed by VC10 ZA148 of the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre. 200_4_P1010142CE

A rather less than classic picture of B737-800 VP-BQR at Cornwall Airport Newquay in the colours of Malaysian airline Love Fly. I understand this is or was to be their second aircraft as 9M-MJI. TZ70_P1020919CE

ZD704 at Newquay - 22 July 2020

Former RAF BAe 125 CC3 ZD704 at Cornwall Airport Newquay. This aircraft was damaged beyond repair in a severe hail storm at Kandahar on 23 April 2013 and later repatriated. It is not clear to me if it is part of the collection of the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre. It has previously been displayed amongst their other aircraft but on this occasion it was tucked away the back of the site. 5300_DSC_2128CE

Stored at Newquay (4) - 22 July 2020

It is not particularly easy to photograph aircraft stored at Cornwall Airport Newquay so there is a degree of compromise in what I take and post. Reported as arriving in June 2020, two Interjet A320neos did not get as far as taking up their Mexican registrations and are now marked VP-CCT (nearer camera) and VP-CCS. TZ70_P1020500C

A Sad Last Look at Thomas Cook (3) - 24 October 20…

25 Oct 2019 1 97
My visit to Newquay today was, primarily, to see the Thomas Cook aircraft which had been moved there after the sad collapse of the business. There were five aircraft in the care of Apple Aviation, 3 x A330 and 2 x A321. The two A330s here are G-CHTZ with G-TCXB. TZ70_P1010333E

My visit to Newquay today was, primarily, to see the Thomas Cook aircraft which had been moved there after the sad collapse of the business. There were five aircraft in the care of Apple Aviation, 3 x A330 and 2 x A321. Here, A321 G-TCDX was receiving a lot of attention - although I waited for people to be out of an already busy shot. The no. 1 engine cowlings are open and it sounded as though the APU was running. I would not normally post a photograph including a fence and ground equipment but I was not going to miss any opportunity before the former Thomas Cook aircraft find new lives. TZ70_P1010335CE

Algerian Naval Forces Super Lynx - 7 June 2016

07 Jun 2016 1 160
During a visit to the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre, I snatched this shot of a Super Lynx flying over Newquay Airport and was quite excited when I viewed it on my laptop and discovered the Algerian Naval Forces titles. The machine is flying with British military roundels and serial which, I think, is ZK196 and is part of an order for six. I am still very pleased with even this mediocre shot but much better images have been already been posted on the internet from locations including Newquay and Davidstow. 200_2_P1100988C

Old St Mawgan Tower (Mono) - 14 September 2013

15 Sep 2013 345
The present day Newquay airport [EGHQ/NQY] will always live in my memory as St Mawgan [EGDG], once, together with Leeming, a master diversion field. A lot of European money has gone into developing the airport and only yards from this delightful old control tower is the home of the Classic Air Force at Aerohub, the subject of a separate set on my photostream. The new control tower is west of this position. X20_DSCF2220M
