The Alpaca - 30 August 2020

The Alpaca Public House, 84-86 Essex Road, London N1.
Although I do not frequent pubs, I can rejoice in the unusual names of some and am a lover of the beautiful glazed tiles which adorn many exteriors. I can't imagine that many UK pubs share this name. This was formerly The New Rose and before that The Half Moon. At one point, a temporary sign hung outside The New Rose and read 'The Nou Rose' (sic).

The Victoria, Woolston - 2 July 2020
03 Jul 2020 |
|
The basic external decor of The Victoria public house in Victoria Road, Woolston was already in place when a mural was added at the end of June 2020. The Churchill figure and the quotation, usually attributed to George Santayana, are not directly connected but both, I imagine were inspired by recent, rather heated socio-political debate. I note the events of June 2020 as a matter of record and do not intend to fan the flames of any particular faction any further.

The Crown at Shuthonger - 16 September 2017
16 Sep 2017 |
|
The Crown on the A38 at Shuthonger, 2 miles north of Tewkesbury, contains Uncle Chen's Chinese Takeaway. This is one of two photographs from today of licensed premises with a Chinese restaurant inside.
I get very frustrated when trying to produce accurate and informative notes for my photographs as there is frequently inaccurate or contradictory information online. It is not clear whether Uncle Chen's is takeaway only or also a restaurant and, although the advertisement outside is unambiguous, the place is also referred to as Uncle Chen (without the 's).
