The views from Alexandra Palace on an early summer evening take a bit of beating. The residential areas of North London contrast with the constantly developing skyline of Docklands. The development does not entirely please me. Docklands did need to be revitalised and many aspects of it are fine but, as construction continues, new buildings seem increasingly ostentatious and commercially speculative. TZ30_P1050781R

Insight into the making of an image Difficulties faced me in getting the shot I wanted, although, as it happens, this was the first in the series. I was trying to exclude a nearby tree. The sculpture is 'Drawing Cube (Blue)' (2010) by Suresh Dutt in mild steel and is part of the Canary Wharf permanent collection. Doubts remained after selecting the shot to post. The intention was always to have the sculpture in near silhouette. I was very disappointed to find another very similar shot online (we always think we are being original but rarely are in this age of digital proliferation) but I was struck by the fact that showing the piece in its blue colour and including part of the above mentioned tree both worked.
