An Act of Remembrance - 2 November 2018

02 Nov 2018 88
2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of The Great War, now known as World War I. The poppy, a universally recognised symbol of remembrance and respect has been in such use since 1921. This year's displays are, perhaps, more elaborate and widespread than ever before though, in my mind, every year past and yet to come is an equally important opportunity to recognise sacrifice and service. Sadly, although we commemorate conflicts past, conflict itself is not a thing of the past. This display is at The Diving Museum, Gosport. 200_3_P1080507CE

In Memoriam - 21 June 2016

2016 sees the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. The poor souls commemorated here, on a wall in Slip Lane, Alkham, were early victims of the First World War and did not survive to see one of its worst battles. 200_2_P1110110
