This tranquil scene belies that the fact that this beautiful Mute Swan was paddling only feet from a debris-strewn mud shore on Southampton Water. 5300_DSC_2819E

Do we ever tire of pictures of swans? They are beautiful and elegant (as well as, potentially, rather temperamental) and each new sighting lifts the heart. This Mute Swan had just set out from the Clayhall Road side of Stoke Lake, Gosport. Just to ward off any teasing about my title, the Mute Swan is not actually silent but lacks some of the sounds of other swans. 200_2_P1040884

Unaware of the significance of the presence at the nearby berth 101 of the Höegh Osaka [qv], this juvenile Mute Swan was in a family group of four, the adults and two juveniles, on the River Test. 200_2_P1020633C
