It's All About Me. (Tonight) - 16 October 2019

I first photographed the sign at the entrance to Murrills Industrial Estate in Portchester on 29 January 2015. I recently noticed the potential for a night shot and returned to the site a couple of days later to get this slightly edited picture.

Storm Damage in Cheltenham - 22 November 2017
23 Nov 2017 |
|
My night shots are always clumsy and my night reportage has been hitherto non-existent but tonight the two came together in Cheltenham. A large part of a tree had fallen on to Promenade near Imperial Lane and modest traffic control was put in place. The Gloucestershire Police Astra left soon after the arrival of the clean-up vehicles and when I returned to the scene later in the evening the badly damaged tree had been severely polled and traffic returned to normal. All this was dealt with very quickly.

I took this shot of an urban landscape just because I could. The view is generally north across the quiet tracks of Nice Ville station.

Shell By Night - 9 February 2017
09 Feb 2017 |
|
A bridge camera is a humble tool in the hands of a modestly skilled photographer but, sometimes, the results can please even if not perfect. The Shell petrol station at Trerulefoot Roundabout in Cornwall looked so striking as I left a nearby restaurant that I just fired off a couple of handheld shots on iA. And then added a Shell frame.

60 Calthorpe Road, Birmingham
One can only imagine what the district now known as Five Ways in Birmingham looked like in 1800, the approximate date of construction of the Georgian town house which, with an extension, now houses a drive through Costa Coffee. On an island in a notoriously busy and complex road system, it attracted surprised comment when it opened.
As a non-coffee drinker, I was more readily attracted by the architecture. The busy location and the awkward presence of a taxi rank to one side make photography difficult so I opted for a late evening shot when it is about as quiet as it gets.

Truro Cathedral by Night - 8 July 2015
09 Jul 2015 |
|
I took this photograph of Truro Cathedral to practice my night photography and have processed it with just a little HDR. It is taken from more or less the same POV as my daytime shot of 13 April 2014 with which you may wish to compare.
Truro Cathedral is distinctive for being one of only three cathedrals in the UK with three spires. It is also of very recent construction (1880-1910) and was the first cathedral to be built on a new site in England since Salisbury in 1220.

Although my short series might suggest otherwise, I am not a petrolhead. I took this picture to practice my night shots. This Infiniti QX70S 3.0d RX64SXB arrived at the Business Design Centre, Islington to be exhibited during the London Art Fair 2015. As mentioned in the text accompanying my daytime shot, the finished display included a QR code link to a video by light painter Patrick Rochan.

This shot has no particular purpose other than to practice my night shots at which I am not very good. This is a view of a Strand property taken from Buckingham Arcade. It looks busy but deserted.
