'Marine Connections' (2013) by Charles Normandale (Wheely Down Forge)
Occupying the west side of the roundabout at Tipner Interchange, the opposite side from 'Freedom', is this sculpture appearing to rise from the ground, evoking both the waves and the submarines familiar to Portsmouth. Specifically, it relates to the Pounds scrap yard.

Showing that I still have a lot to learn, this shot is the only one from a burst sequence I could use and then only after pp. First Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 33897/SN14TRX arrives at Tipner Interchange on its return from Portsmouth City Centre to Park and Ride.

Towards the edge of Tipner Lake lies this boat which, I have learned, has been there a long while decaying only slowly. It made an attractive study in today's sunlight. In this version, there is nice juxtaposition with The Sails of the South which greet visitors to Portsmouth at the northern end of the M275.

The advent of Park and Ride at Tipner has provided an opportunity to explore conveniently the surrounding area. I was surprised to come across this Beauty Salon at 1 Tipner Lane.

Freedom (2013)
The new Tipner interchange serving, primarily, Portsmouth Park and Ride, has a roundabout with this sculpture symbolising a greyhound running free from the racing world and thus commemorating the former dog track nearby. The piece was designed by Charles Normandale and produced by Wheely Down Forge.
