Manchester May Memories (5) - 7 May 1986

22 Apr 2020 1 101
My records reveal that on 7 May 1986 I made a day trip to Manchester (from London) and, on a whirlwind tour, took in Manchester Piccadilly, Rose Hill Marple, Stockport and Manchester Victoria. The days of the first generation dmus were gradually coming to a close when I captured this Metropolitan-Cammell unit, apparently bound for Liverpool, at Manchester Victoria. 860636A_070586E

Manchester May Memories (5M) - 7 May 1986

My records reveal that on 7 May 1986 I made a day trip to Manchester (from London) and, on a whirlwind tour, took in Manchester Piccadilly, Rose Hill Marple, Stockport and Manchester Victoria. The days of the first generation dmus were gradually coming to a close when I captured this Metropolitan-Cammell unit, apparently bound for Liverpool, at Manchester Victoria. The station in 1986 was a gloomy, smoky place but full of character and a place to be for interesting through traffic. I felt this shot deserved an additional b&w treatment. 860636A_070586M

Memories of Ayr Depot (6) - 16 October 1985

19 Apr 2020 3 94
A single car from Metropolitan-Cammell Class 101 dmu 101322. This car has TransClyde titles and I think it is the Driving Motor. Taken in the days when depots were many, usually had locomotives and when a courteous request to look round was usually met with a courteous and affirmative reply. Ayr Depot is a little to the south of Newton-on-Ayr station. This is the sixth in a series of rediscovered photographs being scanned during lockdown and, I hope, bringing as much joy to those thus confined as they do to me. 851616_161085E

Metropolitan-Cammell Class 101 dmu 101321 with Driving Motor SC53146 nearest the camera. Whilst other vehicles in the depot bore TransClyde titles, this unit appears in Strathclyde Transport scheme. The Class 20 locomotive in the distance is 20039. Taken in the days when depots were many, usually had locomotives and when a courteous request to look round was usually met with a courteous and affirmative reply. Ayr Depot is a little to the south of Newton-on-Ayr station. This is the fifth in a series of rediscovered photographs being scanned during lockdown and, I hope, bringing as much joy to those thus confined as they do to me. 851615_161085E

Great Central Railway (3) - 15 July 2014

This beautiful dmu, seen at Loughborough Central, was running alternate services on this weekday on the Great Central Railway. Although run as a two-car Class 101 unit, these Metropolitan-Cammell cars, now E50321 (nearer camera) and E51427 would once have been Class 101/1 and 102/2 from 3 and 2-car units respectively and the former numbered M 50321. The Rugby destination blind is a look into the distant past. 200_P1040624
