It is not often in the Britain of today that one has the opportunity to photograph a street of such character. The housing on the west side of Chandlers Lane (here) is converted from the Harbour Workshops of 1837 and 1850. The chimney marks the site of a smiddy (smithy) for testing and repairing iron chains. Panmure Passage (2009) by Marion Smith, Norden granite. Located at 3DH, Marine Parade Walk, Dundee, the site of the shipyard which built RRS Discovery [qv]. I am indebted to Public Art Dundee (Facebook) for a prompt and comprehensive reply to my query on this Dundee sight. On my visit, I could not see any plaque or suitable acknowledgement of the artist. The RRS Discovery is a barque-rigged auxiliary steamship famous for carrying Scott and Shackleton to the Antarctic. The restored ship, launched in 1901, is now located in her Dundee birthplace where visitors can learn more at Discovery Point.
