A challenging shot through glass during an apparent period of communal rest for the Eastern Black-and-White Colobus monkeys at London Zoo features new (2 February 2017) arrival Mandible - newborn monkeys are named after bones of the body (!) - with (presumably) mother Sophia. 200_3_P1000636E

Black-capped Squirrel Monkey - 18 May 2017

One of the most charming and accessible habitats at London Zoo houses the Black-capped Squirrel Monkeys. Fast moving but not especially concerned about the proximity of humans, they can be photographed with patience and effort. 200_3_P1000588SC

The Captive - 16 October 2015

The White-naped Mangabey is classified as 'critical' in the wild. Whatever one might think of zoos - I have mixed feelings - those with breeding programmes and providing planned protection of diminishing species clearly have an important role to play. One might inaccurately interpret the animal's expression on viewing this picture but the monkeys at London Zoo were leaping playfully from fence to habitat and back so, at the risk of anthropomorphising, I think they were enjoying themselves. As an aside, the (arguable) success of this photograph represents one more small learning step for me. I take ten times as long as most people but I am now experimenting with focus modes to get better results. 200_2_P1070230

The Towel Monkey - 31 January 2014

We did not get towel animals at the beginning of the cruise but when they started, they were good. The monkey was actually quite a startling sight when we came back to our cabin. TZ30_P1010651 Geotagging approximate
