Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Mount Hope, ON Lancaster KB726 VR-A On an unexpectedly sunny day, I was able to return to the wonderful Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum nearly seven years after my first visit. The Lancaster, which has toured the UK with our own PA474, was flying on pilot training sorties and, after each departure, making modestly exuberant flypasts of the museum area. One could not help but be moved. To see either of the two surviving, airworthy Lancasters flying is a great privilege. This shot shows clearly the Victoria Cross tribute to P/O Andrew Mynarski who died as the result of injuries sustained in the crash of the original KB726 but saved the life of his tail gunner. 200_3_P1100881

Although I am quite pleased with the composition and lighting of this picture, it is technically disappointing as the bright sun drove up the shutter speed and 'froze' the props; in the shot, the aircraft is taxiing in from the first sortie. 200_3_P1100874CE

The extremely friendly and progressive Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum at Hamilton, Ontario affords views across the apron (ramp) unparalleled in most locations today. The museum's star attraction (for many) is Lancaster KB726 (C-GVRA/FM213) which can be seen performing engine runs prior to departure on an early season pilot training sortie. In the foreground are Cargojet B767-300 C-FPIJ and the rather less fortunate WestJet Boeing 737 MAX 8 C-GZSG one of the reported 387 aircraft grounded worldwide after two fatal accidents involving the type.
