Regal Princess at Southampton - 21 June 2021

21 Jun 2021 104
In a manner entirely befitting the now tedious pandemic, the rain fell on everyone's solstice parade from one end of the day to the other. The cruise industry was getting back to its feet but unusual visitor Regal Princess, which had arrived on 19 June 2021 would depart on the 21st only for another coast hugging experience. Rain cannot always be allowed to hinder photography so I pressed on with my sortie but was mildly annoyed to find the waste disposal vessel Seagreen alongside after the cruise ship had been in port for a couple of days. 200_4_P1010989CE

Island Princess leaving Port Everglades for Falmouth, Jamaica. I have included the observer just to make this slightly more than yet another picture of a cruise ship. Geotagging approximate as ipernity no longer shows location information for offshore tags. 200_3_P1080275CE

Crown Princess leaving Port Everglades - 11 March…

15 Mar 2018 118
Sunday 11 March 2018 saw no fewer than seven cruise ships at Port Everglades. My previous efforts with port photography had left me rather subject weary and the lighting conditions - into sun for much of the day - discouraged me from attempting a group shot or any photography from the 17th Street bridge. Instead, I waited patiently for the evening's departures. The fifth ship to leave was Crown Princess which had occupied berth 19 before sailing for Eleuthera. 200_3_P1050026CE

Regal Princess, bound for Princess Cays, was the second to depart and had the pilot scurrying back from Carnival Conquest. (Can you scurry on water?) As I wrote in yesterday's notes on Royal Class fleetmate Royal Princess, this ship has a multi-tone horn and played a tune as she passed Harbour Isles. 200_3_P1050014CE

Royal Princess was the first of five cruise ships to leave Port Everglades on a grey Saturday afternoon. She was bound for Princess Cays. Royal Princess and Royal Class fleetmate Regal Princess have multi-tone horns and she passed Harbour Isles with a playful tune. 200_3_P1040991CE

A Portrait of Port Everglades (21) - 8 March 2018

11 Mar 2018 151
This picture is part of a new series depicting Port Everglades, the busy port of Fort Lauderdale. As is usual with ports these days, access is not easy and viewpoints are limited. My pictures, then, are by no means all portraits, as I would prefer, but a record of the port at work. This busy scene includes several vessels with Caribbean Princess in the foreground on berth 02 during preparations for departure to Eleuthera and the Seabulk Towing rotortug 'Trident' manoeuvring in the vicinity. 200_3_P1040929CE

My pictures, then, are by no means all portraits, as I would prefer, but a record of the port at work. Caribbean Princess at berth 02 had arrived from Grand Cayman and would depart for Eleuthera. On berth 19, Celebrity Summit, which had arrived from George Town would depart for nearby Nassau and was due to return on 10 March. As evening departures approached, the Seabulk Towing rotortug 'Trident' manoeuvred astern of Caribbean Princess between berths 02 and 01. She is seen here approaching that position. 200_3_P1040923CE

Princess Cruises use berth 02, this day seeing Regal Princess which arrived from Cozumel and departed to Princess Cays. It is interesting to compare this portrait of Regal Princess with a similar view of yesterday's visitor Crown Princess. 200_3_P1040673R

I Saw Three Ships - 3 March 2018

05 Mar 2018 1 111
Part of the evening exodus from Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale. Most ships head generally south from the port to Caribbean destinations or beyond. A few head north or towards the Bahamas. On this day, Celebrity Summit led, under way to Falmouth Jamaica. Carnival Conquest followed, headed for the much nearer Eleuthera and Crown Princess brought up the rear on her way to Basseterre. 200_3_P1040635CE
