Red is an auspicious colour in Chinese culture so I would imagine the appearance at the Southampton celebrations of Chinese New Year was welcomed by more than just me. This Emergency One bodied Volvo KR16XML from St Marys station was attracting a steady stream of visitors on a cold morning, The letters UHPL indicate 'ultra-high pressure lances'. 5300_DSC_1655CE

Icelandic Police (Lögreglan) Volvo V70 277/NV M27 in Rauðarárstígur, Reykjavik. The vehicle was responding to an alarm at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Utanríkisráðuneytið). I believe it was a fire alarm but, curiously, no fire appliance arrived and the police left after only a brief visit. 200_3_P1000900R

To come across this retired Saxon bodied Volvo FL6 fire engine H873XYF close to home at the end of a short road trip was a nice surprise. Operated as a limo by The Big Red Fire Engine Co., it was seen in Twyford Drive, Lee on Solent. Information elsewhere suggests that this was a Greenwich based appliance with London Fire Brigade. The Metropolitan Police seem to have a greater variety of vehicles than in the past. The Hyundai i30 is already a common sight on the streets of the capital but the Volvo V40 was a new type to me. This ANPR Interceptor, BX14EFA, on Old Compton Street looked very smart. 200_2_P1020229PS_C

Having already seen one on the road, I wanted to photograph them whilst still relatively new and was fortunate to find two together at Gosport Bus Station.
