Although not without precedent, this shot is a bit unusual in my photostream not least for being a bit fuzzier than normal. We were still some distance from Philipsburg and it was early in the morning when I saw Silver Spirit apparently heading away from St. Maarten. She was, in fact, underway from Tortola to Gustavia, St. Barts. Geotagging approximate. 200_3_P1100477CE

The title is a little misleading as Silversea Silver Spirit is still at anchor off Cannes as MSC Orchestra heads for Palma de Mallorca. Silver Spirit did not appear on the website for the day's movements but its public schedule shows that she was between Barecelona (21 April) and Civitavecchia (26 April). Silversea Silver Whisper at Kanavaterminaali, Helsinki. She had arrived from St Petersburg and would depart for Copenhagen. The constraints of photographing a ship from the port (rather than the sea) are such that one sometimes has to consider an unconventional composition, as here. Silver Whisper is seen through part of the Helsinki Skywheel. The Skywheel has 30 gondolas of which two are customised. One offers a VIP experience from sponsors Veuve Clicquot and the other, visible in this photograph is, believe it or not, a sauna! 200_2_P1120794

This is barely a portrait of a cruise ship but I do want some variety in my images. In this view from La Turbie, Silversea Silver Wind is seen at Monaco on a Mediterranean itinerary. X20_DSCF2086

Although Royal Princess should have been in the limelight on its inaugural visit to Southampton, it was not well positioned for a photograph and I preferred to concentrate on Silversea's Silver Cloud which had arrived from Cherbourg and would depart to Copenhagen. As you can see, the bunker vessel Whitonia was in attendance so my shot is a record of a typical Southampton scene rather than the intended portrait. The Grimaldi Lines vehicle carrier Grande Italia, a regular visitor, had arrived from Valencia. P1180242
