As the country prepared for a second national lockdown and I felt this might be my last opportunity for a while for meaningful photography, I had the most pleasant of surprises at Fareham station. I had gone there anticipating rail replacement services and these were indeed running (and are illustrated in my photostream) but of even greater interest was a gathering of classic buses in the car park. There were eventually six before all departed. This was, apparently, not an organised event as such but a last trip by their respective owners before storing the vehicles for the winter. Now an established sight in Cosham, this part open top Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian J345BSH was introduced there by Southsea restaurant Al'Burrito to bring their food to a wider clientele. Their bus is advertised for travel to festivals as well as being available for events and seats 30+ on the top deck. This vehicle has become popular at its Cosham site and I understand the restaurant hopes to acquire another. 200_2_P1150285E

This Bath Bus Company (RATP) operated sightseeing Alexander bodied Volvo Olympian P773SWC is, I think, remarkable for its vivid Eastbourne branding - as it was photographed on duty in Bristol. X20_DSCF1856

Having established that the Gosport Bus Rally was indeed under way, I decided that the Stokes Bay venue was not the idea place to be between night duties and that Gosport Bus Station would be a better place to see some of the associated vehicles. This ex-Portsmouth Alexander bodied Atlantean VTP262L/262 is particularly beautiful in my eyes as it dates from a key part of my boyhood when I was first interested in buses and briefly had a very basic camera. Preserved buses are extensively photographed and rallies tend to attract similar exhibits but I think it is worthwhile to add to the library of such photographs so that, when some of these vehicles pass into history or adopt new guises, their existence and appearance at different times and in different places is recorded as thoroughly as possible.
