Fade to Shine More Brightly - 12 April 2018

David Bowie will live forever in the memories of his greatest fans but one of the sites associated with his greatest early success has changed in only 46 years. It was in 1972 that 23 Heddon Street, W1 was used for the cover photograph of Bowie's album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. I visited it today as documented in the preceding pictures. As I played with successive edits of the original photograph, I noticed that with increases in contrast the wall became brighter. Perhaps when we fade, as we all shall, we shall also shine more brightly.

Empty Seat Collage - 28 September 2014

Empty seats are one of my interests. As I left my cruise ship in Bordeaux, one of the first things I saw was this set of posters depicting......empty seats. The resonance was immediate.

Besuch der MFGZ - 7 July 2013

On the weekend of 6 & 7 July 2013, six aircraft of MFGZ [Motorfluggruppe Zürich] visited Lee on Solent in Hampshire. The photographs from which I have made this collage are what I call 'pap' which can be short for pappy (they're not very good) or paparazzi - whereby you shoot what you can so that you have at least got the news shot. I saw these aircraft on Saturday evening but too late to photograph them and again on Sunday morning but could not stop the car. By the time I could get back to the airfield, they were being prepared for departure which meant I got less than ideal pictures but I thought it was a nice occasion, worth recording.
The aircraft are (left) Cessna 172 HB-CHX with C172 HB-CYH behind; (centre) Cherokee Archers HB-PMT and HB-PIV; and (right) C172 HB-CKG with another behind which, based on information on Swiss Flight , is likely to be HB-CLH or HB-CFT.

This is the squirrel on top of the fingerpost at Whiteley Shopping Centre. The Southerner quite rightly commented on Flickr that it looks a bit like a mouse. I chose different angles to decide for myself and to allow you to do so also. I imagine this is a Lucy Casson figure as are the other animals around the Centre and I feel Ms. Casson intentionally leaves a little ambiguity in her work. The figures we comfortably describe as rabbits, have the ears of hares but the works she has created are intended to reflect the wildlife of the area and I think one is more likely to see a rabbit than a hare.
