Hamworthy Liberal Hall - 20 May 2018

21 May 2018 85
Hamworthy Liberal Hall, 243 Blandford Road, Hamworthy, Poole. I am pretty selective with my photographs of buildings but I do like to post those which particularly caught my eye. The Hamworthy Liberal Hall could hardly be described as attractive but it is distinctive. 200_3_P1050879CE

The Swan Inn, Poole (closed) - 19 May 2018

19 May 2018 178
The Swan Inn in Old Orchard, Poole has joined the long list of closed pubs. It is a beautiful building, especially as seen in the May sunshine, with its simple brick complementing the attractive green, glazed tiles. It appears that there was a dispute as long ago as 2006 about plans for its demolition and development of the site. An article from the Bournemouth Echo (below) quotes some controversial and, in my opinion, very wrong comments about the property. www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/851346.Opposition_grows_ov... There was more positive news in the same publication as recently as 4 April 2018. www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/16135770.Richard_Carr_reve... 200_3_P1050855CE

S&DJR Remembered (11) - 30 March 2013

20 Apr 2014 132
My pursuit of railway history continued today in Sturminster Newton in Dorset where the actual infrastructure of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (S&DJR) has all but disappeared but the route and station are marked. Standing next to the Railway Gardens and The Exchange (right), The Market Column by Peter Griffin deserves inclusion in my album for its commemoration of both the railway and one of its main sources of income, the Cattle Market, formerly on the site of The Exchange. A detail of the column is shown here. P1170176
