Fallen Hero - 29 October 2021

When I came across this closed branch of fashion store Fallen Hero at 8 Cole Street in stricken Scunthorpe, I thought it appositely named and emblematic of the town's embattled retail and that of the wider country. That part of Scunthorpe has a particular proliferation of shuttered properties but, in the case of Fallen Hero, things are not quite as bad as they seem for that brand at least as there appears to be branch extant in Scotter Road.

John Harrison 1693-1770 (2019-20) by Marcus Cornish, bronze. Barrow-upon-Humber.
John Harrison, Barrow's 'most famous son', was a clockmaker and inventor. He is seen here winding H4, the watch (marine chronometer) which enabled sailors to calculate their position at sea and solved 'the problem of longitude'.

Brigg Tandoori, 20 Market Place, Brigg.
My eye was caught by the word 'Chinese' on the banner but there was little or no evidence of Chinese dishes on the menu which, as you might reasonably expect, is predominantly Indian. Thus, this enters my photostream purely as a record shot.
