Hedge Fun Management - 9 May 2021
09 May 2021 |
|
This topiary is in a residential area of Lee on Solent at, perhaps, the home of a hedge fun manager. So many cultural references come to mind but it can be enjoyed for what it is.

Apparently unperturbed by the COVID-19 storm, this cat was resting at the edge of Common Barn Lane in Lee on Solent.
Current photographs are taken during exercise or essential shopping trips.

Resting on the recycling bin, this is one of the local cats who make life just a little more difficult for the birds in the garden.
Current photographs are mostly taken during exercise or essential shopping trips. For this, I needed to go no further than the driveway.

Cretan Cat - 29 September 2019

|
By the middle of a holiday in Crete, we had seen very few cats or dogs but this fluffy animal was resting, understandably in the shade, alongside The Lake in Agios Nikolaos where there are many restaurants.

From time to time, I post a so-called 'hybrid' photograph which combines two or more of my main interests. The stark but, as it turned out, effective evening light helped to make this picture of a local cat under a Fiat 500 quite irresistible. I think this cat is deaf as it does not react to any kind of noise.

A cat candid on Cherque Farm, Lee on Solent. Like its near homophone, it would disappear a few minutes later.

There are a lot of cats in our area who wander around as they please and like to take over wherever they turn up. This one is a regular and there is so much that is 'cat' about the picture. He is sitting across the wall which can't be very comfortable and was intent as only cats can be on who knows what.

In The Long Grass - 12 August 2017
12 Aug 2017 |
|
There is a patch of grass in my back garden (it is just a patch) which grows much longer than the rest. A local cat had settled there in its adopted role as great hunter but seemed to flinch as any bird flew overhead, seemingly more alarmed than they by it. The picture was taken through glass and lacks sharpness.

Cat Candid - 5 August 2017

At the risk of blowing my own trumpet, I try to have a camera always ready and react quickly to any unexpected opportunity for a shot. My bus was moving slowly when I saw this cat seemingly trying to get into The Pet Shop in Hackney. A lamppost moved into my line of sight and then, moments later and a few feet from the original view, the cat was, inadvertently, perfectly posed.

Inky the Catcierge - 2 February 2016

Inky is one of at least three cats to be found at the Marriott at Boca Center, Boca Raton. He is a catcierge and lives with his Mum and brother. He is frequently to be seen on the outside concierge desk and, just before this picture, was eating from his dish there. He does not interrupt eating for photographs. If you look closely, you will see food on his whiskers.

King of the Slightly Long Grass - 23 January 2016

This would be king of the jungle likes to think that my garden is his. At this important time of year for feeding the birds, he arrives to sit and stare but little else. In fact, his behaviours are quite bemusing. Only minutes before this shot through glass, I had watched him crouching and motionless, albeit in full view, and watching a magpie who, for its part, seemed entirely unconcerned. There seemed to be no intention to pounce. The annoying thing is, this cat stays to eat the bird food especially, it seems, the dried worms.

Butter Wouldn't Melt - 27 December 2014
27 Dec 2014 |
|
Only moments earlier, this visiting cat had been licking paté off a baguette roll in my back garden, a snack intended primarily for our birds. I took several photographs unnoticed and then, after cleaning its face, the cat noticed me and gave me one of those cat-only 'who me?' looks before actually approaching the back door to see if I could extend any further hospitality.

Open House - 10 October 2014

This house in Westland Drive, Lee on Solent has only recently been occupied and the young feline occupant seemed both excited and curious if a little incautious.

Tel Avivi Cat - 15 May 2014
17 May 2014 |

While dogs in Tel Aviv seem to be much-loved pets, the cats seem less cared for, semi-feral and a little anxious if still optimistic and hoping for attention.
