London Boy (Mono) - 7 December 2019

07 Dec 2019 1 111
It is nearly four years since the untimely death of David Bowie and one still comes across poignant reminders of the greatness of someone I shall never forget. This structure is on New Oxford Street, near Tottenham Court Road station and below Centre Point. The lyric is from 'The London Boys', first released in 1966. TZ70_P1010523M

Life On Mars - 15 September 2019

16 Sep 2019 70
Nearing the end of a long day out in London, the message on this electronic billboard at Waterloo was quite poignant. There was a time when Life On Mars was the soundtrack to my life. It was, at the time, linked to a very special person. I still miss David. TZ70_P1010125E

Ziggy Stardust - 12 April 2018

12 Apr 2018 84
This plaque at 23 Heddon Street, London, W1 was unveiled in 2012, forty years after the release of 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spider from Mars' and four years before the untimely death of David Bowie. Plaques commemorating fictional characters are rare. Sherlock Holmes is commemorated in Baker Street and Lara Croft in Derby. 200_3_P1050330CE

23 Heddon Street, London, W1 is noted as the location of the cover photograph for David Bowie's 1972 album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. A plaque was erected there in 2012, forty years after the release of the album and four years before Bowie's untimely death. A lot happens in more than forty years and my subdued pilgrimage today brought me to a spot all but unrecognisable from its 1970s appearance but well documented on the internet. 200_3_P1050332R

Fade to Shine More Brightly - 12 April 2018

12 Apr 2018 142
David Bowie will live forever in the memories of his greatest fans but one of the sites associated with his greatest early success has changed in only 46 years. It was in 1972 that 23 Heddon Street, W1 was used for the cover photograph of Bowie's album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. I visited it today as documented in the preceding pictures. As I played with successive edits of the original photograph, I noticed that with increases in contrast the wall became brighter. Perhaps when we fade, as we all shall, we shall also shine more brightly. 23_FTSMB

Bridget Griggs - 11 October 2016

12 Oct 2016 158
It is nine months since the premature death of David Bowie and I was, at last, able to make my latest visit to New York. In SoHo's Lafayette Street, a now fading memorial is outside number 281. David lived at 285. Some 2016 art by Bridget Griggs is also a tribute and replaced an earlier piece on the wall of 281. 200_2_P1140118
