The John F Kennedy Memorial (1965) at Runnymede is situated in one acre of land given to the USA. The memorial stone is accessed via a path and The Steps of Individuality which are constructed from 60,000 irregular Portuguese granite setts. The setts were laid randomly and there are 50 actual steps each representing a state of the USA. The monument was designed by landscape architect Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe. The seven-ton block of Portland stone is engraved with a passage from the President's inaugural address. The inscription was made by sculptor Alan Collins. 200_2_P1050244
