NSU Ro 80 (1963/67) After visiting the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum in Munich, I went on to the Pinakothek der Moderne. A small number of cars are displayed in the Design section there primarily as examples of design rather than automobile history/technology. To my delight, one of those is the second NSU Ro 80 I saw on the day. It is attributed to Claus Luthe (1932-2008). 200_3_P1090450CE

NSU Ro 80 (1977) Der Ro 80 setzte um 1970 Maßstäbe im Fahrzeugbau. Ein Kreiskolbenmotor trieb ihn an. Die aus dem Motorsport stammende Keilform prägte für Jahrzehnte das Automobildesign. Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum, München The Ro 80 set standards in vehicle construction around 1970. It was driven by a rotary-piston engine designed by Felix Wankel. The wedge-like shape influenced vehicle design for decades. This certainly brought back happy memories for me although the model was never common in the UK. To my slight surprise and considerable pleasure, I would see another example later this day in the Pinakothek der Moderne. 200_3_P1090410E
