Sole Survivor - 24 October 2013

Car no. 64720 of Class 508 unit 508210 now stands alone at Eastleigh. It is reported elsewhere on Flickr that this vehicle, unlike the rest of the unit, is not to be scrapped but removed from the site. P1180971

508210 at Eastleigh (2) - 11 October 2013

The sad parade of Class 508 units at Eastleigh continues and yet another stood in a familiar spot today. Car no. 64720 of 508210 was nearest the camera. I would not normally include cones in a photograph but I think that they and the leaden sky serve to reinforce the rather desolate air of this scene as I intentionally post a second image of this unit as part of my relentless recording of the changing face of our railways. Around Eastleigh (3) - 25 August 2013

25 Aug 2013 2 190
Eastleigh is a place I can reach easily at short notice and I am determined to record periodically the place and its visitors in the early 21st century. Equipment and colour schemes come and go and, one day, my photographs, amongst thousands of others, might be a valuable source of reference. This is one of the sad sights of the moment as the scrapping of several Class 508 emus continues. Cars 64654 (left) and 71488 are what remains of Class 508 unit 508203. This seems a terrible waste and the effect is perhaps magnified by what still appears a fresh, clean livery which I liked. P1180822

Summer Eastleigh (1) - 19 July 2013

20 Jul 2013 2 194
On another hot July day, the title I had lined up for this was 'Unidentified Frying Objects', but the TZ30 is such a remarkable camera, I was able to identify the German Köf II shunter 323674-2, one of two at Eastleigh and I had already recorded a number (64653) from the Class 508 unit. Eastleigh is worth a visit year round and I visit as often as I can, the result being some sort of document of the incredible variety there. In the background is Network Rail Class 57 57305.
