Preserved Bus Shelter, Dover - 28 December 2018

On a very gloomy December day, sight of this beautiful Grade II listed shelter in Dover lifted my spirits. Located at the confluence of Folkestone Road and Elms Vale Road (formerly Elms Road, see note), it once served Dover Corporation Tramways which closed as long ago as 1936 and was subsequently a bus shelter. The roads in this location have been remodelled and the shelter is no longer convenient for the present day bus top which is a few metres uphill on Folkestone Road (left). The shelter is succinctly described on the excellent website linked below.

The Costa Progress - 8 September 2016

60 Calthorpe Road, Birmingham
One can only imagine what the district now known as Five Ways in Birmingham looked like in 1800, the approximate date of construction of the Georgian town house which, with an extension, now houses a drive through Costa Coffee. On an island in a notoriously busy and complex road system, it attracted surprised comment when it opened.
As a non-coffee drinker, I was more readily attracted by the architecture. The busy location and the awkward presence of a taxi rank to one side make photography difficult so I opted for a late evening shot when it is about as quiet as it gets.
