Technically, this shot is not good enough to post. The panda was way up in the tree and against the light but it seems a shame to leave it out. My partner has posted a much better photograph taken with different equipment.

This wonderful building links my visits to London and Whipsnade zoos. Like the penguin pool in Regents Park, the (old) elephant house at Whipsnade was designed by Berthold Lubetkin (1935). For me the architecture is as enjoyable as the animals.

This female Red River Hog, in addition to having snuffling duties on a hot day was being pursued by two young who were suckling at every opportunity.

See things differently (2). The seemingly placid but also rather distant African White Rhinoceros needed something extra in the composition. I felt the tree was ideal....and the magpie an added bonus.

This wonderful piece of art, which is at once skilled and almost naive, is in the Lookout Cafe at Whipsnade Zoo. Technical note: I like to photograph rectangular subjects this way as it is almost impossible to avoid distortion head-on.
