The Changing Face of Hurn (2) - 18 November 2014

22 Nov 2014 129
The landscape of Bournemouth Airport has changed a lot over the years with the construction in the last few years of new departures and arrivals buildings. The buildings in this view, however, have a longer history with the CAA and, later, NATS. The site housed the College of Air Traffic Control and the Air Traffic Management Development Centre (ATMDC), formerly ATCEU (Air Traffic Control Evaluation Unit). The College buildings are in the centre of the picture with the buildings to the left, later additions. The rather austere structure to the right housed the ATMDC. After NATS moved in 2011, it was eventually announced that the buildings would be developed to accommodate the move from central Bournemouth of Parkfield School. For the time being, the site remains surrounded by light fencing but the school is due to open in September 2015. The various banners on the fencing proclaim the plans for the school and outline the facilities it provides. It is worth noting that the road junction here has been significantly developed since the 1980s with widening and the introduction of light controls. 200_2_P1010950C

A little research on a simple photograph of Scottish Aviation Bulldog XX704 at Bournemouth Hurn highlights that aircraft markings are not always what they seem. If one reads the text accompanying a photograph on Flickr by Andy it suggests a 'fake ID'. 200_2_P1010970

This simple photograph of Scottish Aviation Bulldog XX704 at Bournemouth Hurn was intended to make good use of the autumn sky and light with an ordinary subject. A little research suggests that the aircraft itself is not that simple if one reads the text accompanying a photograph on Flickr by Andy. 200_2_P1010968
