Lloyds Bank (closed), 1 Victoria Road, Woolston, Southampton.
In viewing this, another closed bank, it occurred to me that the salvation of areas like this, left without a bank after this closure, might lie in the operation by banks of more utilitarian, less ostentatious buildings. On the corner of Victoria Road and Portsmouth Road, this is a grand building indeed but, like so many other closed banks, it stands empty more than two years after its closure on 5 March 2018.

The branch of Lloyds Bank, 2 Winchester Road, Basingstoke (corner Church Street) closed on 7 January 2019. Unlike in many towns there remain in the immediate area a number of other bank branches. The rather splendid building has presumably been vacant since closure.

The opening hours of Lloyds Bank, 29 High Street, Lyndhurst are limited with, notably, Wednesday closing. It seems old fashioned but I suppose it is better than a branch closure.

The Lloyds Bank at 32 Stubbington Green, Stubbington is due to close permanently on 2 October 2019, leaving the adjacent towns of Stubbington and Lee on Solent without a bank branch.

The Lloyds Bank building in High Street, Gosport is, in itself, unremarkable but, I think, typical of British bank architecture. In particular, the engraving of the name of the business at the top of the building underlines its character.

Lloyds Bank, Fareham - 9 October 2013

Although I knew it was coming, I was taken rather unawares by the timing of the rebranding of Lloyds Bank (formerly Lloyds TSB) which took place as the result of a European Commission ruling on state aid. With TSB business now conducted elsewhere (as from 9 September 2013), this renaming took effect from 23 September 2013. My first sight of the results was at the Fareham (West Street) branch and forms an important (to me) part of my document of retail and consumer changes. The fascia looks temporary to me. If not, then it looks rather cheap so we shall see. On a technical note, there is a slight lack of clarity in this image. I chose a shot in which cloud was affecting light in the street (as evidenced by the electric lights in the picture) as I did not like the effect of the bright sunshine which re-emerged a few minutes later.
