Tewkesbury Abbey (3) - 19 September 2017

Although I have no religious beliefs or affiliation, I have found in my travels that much ecclesiastical architecture is very beautiful. My continuing reading of mediaeval history adds even greater interest to a visit to a place with such a long history. The present day Tewkesbury Abbey has its origins in the early 12th century and is now, in fact, a parish church. My main interest is its role in the Wars of the Roses. The Battle of Tewkesbury was fought nearby on 4 May 1471.
Here, the very beautiful Abbey is seen from part of the site of the battlefield and the light falls on the one plaque of four on the so-called battlefield monument which specifically refers to the battle. Three other plaques record other local events of historic note.

'Touching Souls' by Mico Kaufman is outside the eponymous Tea Room at Tewkesbury Abbey. Given the positions of the figures, I take this to be an intentional pun by the sculptor.
The Romanian born sculptor lived in Tewksbury (sic), Massachusetts and died, aged 92, on 12 December 2016.

Tewkesbury Abbey (Organists) - 15 September 2017

A simple but fascinating sight in Tewkesbury Abbey. There have been only 19 organists in 280 years. The Abbey has three organs including the Milton Organ and, I believe, only the leading organist is listed here. Wikipedia lists Simon Bell as an organist and the above mentioned Carleton Etherington as organist and Director of Music.
