Following my rather strained shot in Liverpool on 21 July 2021, I had to work hard again to get a half decent shot of Celebrity Silhouette leaving Southampton and seen here after passing Cowes. 200_4_P1020625CE

It's not exactly what I wanted but it's what I got. A massively contre-jour shot of Celebrity Silhouette at Liverpool viewed from Seacombe Ferry Terminal. This is my first picture of Silhouette with her blue hull which, even allowing for a sub-standard shot, I don't think is an improvement. Perhaps it is just that Liverpool is hardly St Kitts. 200_4_P1020264CE

A decently long day in St. Kitts meant that I was able to add to my pictures of the arrival of Celebrity Silhouette with shots of her departure in the beautiful evening light. A the end of her latest Southern Caribbean cruise, Silhouette would spend two days at sea to reach Fort Lauderdale. In this last shot in the series, P&O Britannia, bound ultimately for Southampton, is still at the cruise pier. 200_3_P1100200CE

As the much smaller Viking Sea headed for the Commercial Pier, the large occupants of the main cruise pier at Basseterre, St. Kitts, Celebrity Silhouette and P&O Britannia, looked rather fine in the morning light. 200_3_P1100100C

With the P&O Britannia nearly at the pier, the morning light is falling nicely on the ships which will share the main cruise pier at Basseterre, St. Kitts for another beautiful day. Celebrity Silhouette had been moored for some time. Britannia would depart for St. John's, Antigua on the much longer journey to, eventually, Southampton. Silhouette would have a shorter journey to Fort Lauderdale. 200_3_P1100097CE

As daylight takes a hold for another Caribbean day, P&O Britannia, arriving from Philipsburg, completes her docking manoeuvres and joins Celebrity Silhouette at the the main cruise pier at Basseterre, St. Kitts. The cruise ship element of my work is quite intense and intentionally so. With the main objective being to see as many ships as possible in as many ports as possible, I also seek different angles, backgrounds and lighting conditions. The result should be a very thorough record of the world's cruise ships albeit as part of a wider document with many contributors. 200_3_P1100093CE

The amount of cloud prevalent in the Caribbean is deceptive. It often deposits a morning shower but rarely affects the amount of sunshine and accompanying temperatures. As Viking Sea sailed past the main cruise pier at Basseterre, St. Kitts the passengers of Celebrity Silhouette and P&O Britannia were already closer to their excursions on the beautiful island. For those on Silhouette it was the last port before returning to Fort Lauderdale. For the P&O passengers there would be five more island stops before the long journey to Southampton. 200_3_P1100083CE

It was early when we arrived at Basseterre, St. Kitts but Celebrity Silhouette was already moored at the main cruise pier. She had arrived from Roseau on a Southern Caribbean itinerary and would depart in the evening for the long journey to Fort Lauderdale. 200_3_P1100082CE

Only the previous day, we were watching the departure of six cruise ships from Port Everglades. On Sunday 26 January 2014, our Holland America was the first of another six departures. As we left Fort Lauderdale, the port still accommodated Royal Princess and Allure of the Seas as well as Celebrity Silhouette (foreground) and Independence of the Seas seen here. Out of sight in this shot but between the ships shown was Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam. Celebrity Silhouette was destined for Cozumel and Independence of the Seas for Georgetown. 200_P1000617

There is no better place to get striking shots of a cruise ship than from the deck of another. This impactful image of Celebrity Silhouette was taken from the departing Holland America Eurodam. The Silhouette would leave later for Cozumel. 200_P1000622

To be close up to cruise ships in a busy port is inevitably to be faced with obstructed views which, in fact, present opportunities for varied composition. In this view of Celebrity Silhouette at Port Everglades, a rail on board Eurodam and a striking sky frame the ship nicely before her departure for Cozumel. 200_P1000592

For a member of the public, one of the few ways to get into a port is to be legitimately on a ship. That is part of what makes preparation for a cruise exciting. There is so much to see from the deck of ones ship although some creativity is needed with shots taken in a crowded environment. Wonderful though the previous days viewing had been, it was equally wonderful to be amongst this day's six ships including our own Holland America Eurodam. Celebrity Silhouette is another ship on which I have sailed and was awaiting departure to Cozumel. 200_P1000579
