Retail Deconsecration - 12 February 2017

12 Feb 2017 171
Of my title, make what you will. The photographs in my 'Consumer and Retail History' album aim to provide a partial history of changes in, largely, the UK. The social commentary is as much as in the picture as in the text which tries to be, primarily, factual. In the shadow of Truro Cathedral, stands the former BHS (18-20 Boscawen Street) which is currently being refitted to become a Wilko. This provides some sort of commentary on the streets of our towns today not to say the state of the retail sector. Only a few doors away, the former Austin Reed is to become a Carluccio's. Apart from the obvious change of use, that is more difficult to analyse. 200_2_P1150006

Retail Replay - 17 June 2016

In my long years, I have seen numerous retail failures. Each is sad and affects the lives and families of many people who should be foremost in our minds in the course of such events. Such posters are unfortunately not uncommon in recent years. These were on part of the extensive storefront of BHS in Fareham Shopping Centre. 200_2_P1110094

In my long years, I have seen numerous retail failures. Each is sad and affects the lives and families of many people who should be foremost in our minds in the course of such events. The BHS logo looks a little like a signature written with a flourish but now it seems they are signing off for a final time. 200_2_P1110095M_F
