It was a bit surprising to see three Flybe branded fuel tankers at Exeter Airport more than four months after the airline closed. I imagine it won't be long before this is an interesting historical shot of a sight gone forever. The tractor unit closest to the camera is a Renault truck, R549FHU.

In a difficult era for aviation, Flybe was caught between a rock and a hard place. The airline collapsed on 5 March 2020 and soon thereafter the coronavirus pandemic was pressing all other airlines hard.

The reality of a deserted Car Park 4 at Exeter Airport belies the now historical sign on the hangar.

A surprising number of vehicles could be found around the (former) Flybe buildings at Exeter Airport more than four months after the airline's demise. These included this 1999 Volkswagen Transporter T853XTA, formerly a used by the nearby Training Academy.

The sadly empty former Flybe Training Academy at Exeter Airport following the collapse of the airline on 5 March 2020. The simulator hall has been largely cleared. I understand the full motion simulators were removed in early July.

Farewell to Flybe (3) - 8 March 2020

On Thursday 5 March 2020, Flybe became the latest airline to cease operations in difficult circumstances probably exacerbated by the affects of coronavirus.
On the following Sunday I made a sad pilgrimage to Southampton Airport, one of the worst affected as Flybe had accounted for 90% or more of its movements. Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 G-PRPC was one of six Flybe aircraft grounded there each with a vehicle, in this case a snowplough blocking a very improbable escape attempt.

I wanted a b&w treatment of this shot as it seems to me to reinforce the sense of gloom emanating in particular from the impassive eye of the camera.

On the following Sunday, flights by other airlines were expected but the terminal seemed bereaved. Flybe had accounted for 90-95% of Southampton's movements.
