A Roof Restored - 16 February 2014
16 Feb 2014 |
|
The speculation which accompanied my photograph of 21 January 2014 was, perhaps, misplaced. In mid-February, the roof of the Cherque Farm No. 6 substation was replaced. I was surprised that it was left open to the elements for as long as it was. My followers will know how OCDish I am so they will not be surprised that I noticed two metal brackets on the new roof (visible in this picture) which I assume to be lifting points for what appears to be single piece structure.

The Mystery Deepens - 21 January 2014

The mystery of what is happening to the Cherque Farm No. 6 substation has deepened. It is probably a mystery only to me but I am having fun with these postings whilst also recording changes in Lee on Solent. When I first photographed this structure on 2 January , half the roof was missing. Yesterday the whole roof was removed. I am speculating that either the substation is to be decommissioned or that the roof has been removed intentionally to allow the craning in of new equipment perhaps to support the requirements of the nearby Magister Square development.

Hartlands Road S/S - 11 January 2014

When I took my recent photograph of a Cherque Farm substation it was intended as a news story and not an architectural observation. I don't think I have started another set but this Fareham example in Hartlands Road seemed to merit attention for its appearance rather than its condition especially when lit by January afternoon sun.

Cherque Farm No.6 SS - 2 January 2014
02 Jan 2014 |
|
A little local mystery has cropped up on Cherque Farm, Lee on Solent. This is No. 6 substation managed by Scottish & Southern Electricity. The roof of the south face is completely missing although there is no sign of debris. There are fallen fence panels nearby. This structure has a pretty basic roof a bit like a garden shed as the view of the north face is meant to show. I doubt that the equipment inside should be exposed to the elements for long especially as more severe weather is forecast.
