Leyland Tiger CFN73 - 19 September 2020

This 1947 Park Royal bodied Leyland Tiger PS1 CFN73 'Bertha' started life with East Kent and was, at one time, a showman's caravan with Walkers of Ashbourne. Its more recent history is unclear but when I saw it, it was outside Torquay station. 200_4_P1000558CE

National Motor Museum (12) - 5 September 2019

AEC Regent III RT1808/KYY663 National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. Such is the prominence in the public mind of the Routemaster that the AEC Regent (RT and variants thereof) in London Transport service is less well remembered outside enthusiast circles and that, I think, is a shame. Nearly 7000 of the type were built, the majority by AEC. RT1808 has a Park Royal body and was in service from 1950 to 1976. 5300_DSC_1300R

London Bus Museum (7) - 28 November 2018

The lighting at the excellent London Bus Museum, Brooklands facilitates photography and, although individual vehicles can be hard to frame, some nice group shots are possible. In this picture, from l-r, are 1952 AEC Regent III RT3491/LYR910, Park Royal bodied Routemaster RMC1461/461CLT, BEA AEC Regal IV MLL740, Metrobus M6/WYW6T and Park Royal bodied Leyland 7RT RTL139/KGK803. 200_3_P1080736CE

Green Line Park Royal bodied AEC Reliance RP90/JPA190K at the London Bus Museum, Brooklands. The excellent London Bus Museum provides me with an opportunity to photograph buses I either did not or could not capture with my film camera(s). 200_3_P1080726E

Buses at Bursledon Brickworks (3) - 11 May 2018

City of Southampton Park Royal bodied Guy Arab III 71/LOW217 at Bursledon Brickworks. I was on a private visit the day before the 2018 Bricks, Beer & Buses Festival. I am immensely grateful for the hospitality received from David, Mike and Tom, volunteers with the Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust. 200_3_P1050555CE

Helston Railway (7) - 18 November 2016

The Helston Railway operates seasonally on a restored section of the original Helston Railway which ran from Helston to Gwinear Road on the main line. Although officially closed until mid-December, I was allowed access to take my photographs and I am very grateful for the happy quarter of an hour I spent at Prospidnick. I was especially happy to see the railway's preserved Park Royal Class 103 dmu. I love preserved dmus and this class was small with only 20 sets built. Moreover, the two cars of this unit W50413 (nearer camera) and W56169 are two of only three in preservation. 200_2_P1140465

King Alfred 595 in Gosport (2) - 4 August 2013

04 Aug 2013 219
Having established that the Gosport Bus Rally was indeed under way, I decided that the Stokes Bay venue was not the idea place to be between night duties and that Gosport Bus Station would be a better place to see some of the associated vehicles. King Alfred 595, a Park Royal bodied AEC Renown 595LCG was one of the most attractive of these. In the background is one of First's seemingly indestructible Darts, 42128/S628KTP. Preserved buses are extensively photographed and rallies tend to attract similar exhibits but I think it is worthwhile to add to the library of such photographs so that, when some of these vehicles pass into history or adopt new guises, their existence and appearance at different times and in different places is recorded as thoroughly as possible. King Alfred 595, a Park Royal bodied AEC Renown 595LCG was one of the most attractive of these. The driver had kindly closed the doors for me between loads. I do not like photographs of buses with open doors unless it is an intentional part of the composition. Preserved buses are extensively photographed and rallies tend to attract similar exhibits but I think it is worthwhile to add to the library of such photographs so that, when some of these vehicles pass into history or adopt new guises, their existence and appearance at different times and in different places is recorded as thoroughly as possible.
