This image represents an urban setting during the summer. The fragmented square pieces depict the different sections of a major metropolis and street grids with the broken fan blades and colors representing the comfort of green spaces (olive and green) as well as smog and the discomfort of a summer heat wave (reds, oranges and browns) due to population density and often oppressive temperatures. The tiny details represent the numerous buildings that comprise a city from an aerial perspective. The numerous circles represent the joy of cohesive unity and interconnectedness with the smiling face portraying summer joy.

Rush Hour

Mamaroneck, NY
Note: Composed from garbage consisting of discarded ductwork, bolts, the remains of a rubber spacer ring, and toy cars. The duct pipes and horizontal, vertical and curvy lines represent the highway and street grid and the endless possibilities that lie ahead contingent upon the road taken, the toy cars represent rush hour traffic while the duct work on the left resembles a muffler and tailpipe. The orangey-brown earthen tones represent the colors of the sky during the waning hours of the day while the traces of purple and blue represent the approaching dusk. The shades of gray represent an urban setting where traffic jams are most prevalent. Last, if we make a good choice for travel or have an easy rush hour commute, safe return to our families and loved ones and/or chance to wind down from the hectic activities of the day over dinner, a glass of wine, TV or hobby, as the face indicates – there is reason to smile!

Info:
Cubed Curve , a work of modern contemporary art was created by American sculptor and painter William Crovello (b. 1929) and placed outside the Time-Life Building at 1271 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY in 1972 after being commissioned by the Association for a Better New York. It stood there until October 2018 when donated and transferred to Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA.
Per the press release by Ursinus College, Cubed Curve , a large blue geometric metallic sculpture that weighs 3,500 pounds and “consists of [a] formed, bent and welded stainless steel plate that measures 144 inches high by 48 inches long” was inspired by a “brushstroke” motion and is a “seminal example of the artist’s skill in silhouetting open and closed spaces in three-dimensional form.” [1]

Note 1: With One World Observatory opening on May 29, 2015, the Freedom Tower at 1776 feet tall with 104 floors is the tallest building in the western hemisphere. It replaced the Twin Towers that were destroyed in a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Construction began April 27, 2006.

Note 2: For those who know about the New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox rivalry in baseball, the Freedom Tower was not exempt. Unlike 2008 when a rogue construction worker buried a Boston Red Sox (David Ortiz) jersey under concrete in the new Yankee Stadium when it was being built that required 2 1/2 feet of concrete to be broken so the jersey could be removed, someone scrawled on one of Freedom Tower's beams "Yankees 1." Even thought the Mets also play here in NY, the Yankees will always be New York's team and apparently enshrined in Freedom Tower. I did not notice this until today when I was going through my photos, otherwise I would have taken a separate shot of this beam. Still for trivia and folklore, I've included the photo I did take on September 18, 2010 of the east side of Freedom Tower in its early construction phase:
